Day 27 - Alesund

After 2 days at sea we arrived at Alesund and docked at 7.00am.
Alesund is the most important fishing harbour in Norway due to its central location and the discovery of oil in the 1970's.    In 1904 a devastating fire destroyed the timber homes in Alesund.  The village was rebuilt in "Art Nouveau" style and these buildings can be seen in the photos below.  Many examples of Trolls here, and even a tour up 2800 feet into the valley of the Troll Path and the Gudbrandsjuvet Gorge. A very old road exists here built in 1028 by Viking King Olav at the very top of the mountain overlooking Alesund.  The famous Troll Path with its 11 exciting hairbends ending at the Troll wall winds its way down the valley back to Alesund.
