Day 23 - Trondheim

We rode the local trolley car through the city and up to a mountain overlooking the town of Trondheim.  It was unusually warm(20 degrees) good views, house roofs with grass growing on them had us intrigued. The lake here freezes in winter to a depth of 600 mm, all homes are heated with electricity or propane gas and there are small 2 person cars everywhere and plenty of bikes.

Villages always built on a river near the outlet to the sea.



And a trip to the local church is always on the agenda.

 

 Modern block of apartments with balconies, some say the weather does not allow the use of these balconies !!!

We spent many evenings at BB Kings between shows in the Theatre.

Day 29 - Stavanger

Lying on the south west coast of Norway, Stavanger is the country's fourth largest city and is nicknamed the oil capital.  A wander through the car free streets show open air markets and the usual picturesque mountains and waterfalls.  One of the most popular tourist destinations is Pulpit Rock which we reached by fast catamaran in about 30 minutes.  It stands 1500 feet above the water and is a flat rock giving tourists a breathtaking scenic view above the fjord. The cathedral in the city centre built in 1123 remains the oldest in Norway.

Day 30 - Amsterdam

Arrived back in Amsterdam at 7.00am Sunday morning 25 June 2017 and transferred to the airport for the long and tedious trip home.   Flight out of Amsterdam was late departing and did not pick up any time across to Dubai.  Arrived in Dubai with 20 minutes to catch our Qantas flight home but were stopped from boarding as the gate had closed a few minutes earlier.  Were given taxi vouchers, accommodation vouchers and breakfast vouchers at 1.30am to sleep until 6.30 am and catch the next flight from Dubai to Melbourne at 9.30 am.  Two nights with 2 hours sleep each night left us reasonable weary when we arrived at Tullamarine. Home now to start preparing for the next adventure to the USA, another 5 weeks of fun and laughter, a chance to catch up with Lorraine and Mark and the possibility of seeing Elvis!!!

Day 11

The tour finished today with a trip to Savoca and then our goodbyes back at Taormina. Mike made a great speech including everyone of the group.  Many funny memories were bought up including Lizzie comment to the young waiter early on the tour.  Lizzie by the way is 86 and kept up with the group with ease. The final dinner at a local restaurant, noisy but a great night. This is Lizzie with Judy, we all had fun with Lizzie. From left, Robyn, Mike and Brigitta at the post dinner drinks restaurant.
