Day 8

Image
We are having problems with both wifi and this iPad and are losing words and photos several times before we can publish them. This is the third time I have produced the words above so future reports may be few and far between. Agrigento's valley of the Temples is one of ancient Greece's greatest legacies. These Temples have stood here for over 2000 years These ceramic mosaics are sensational. A lavish Greek home now being restored. At a late night wine bar for a port before nightfall. Houses everywhere built on the side of steep ravines, all out of stone and similar colourings. A wander around the village of Modica. Then over this bridge to Scicli, this bridge is 400 feet above the river. Then the gelato vender arrives In 1600 this area was demolished by an earthquake with thousands losing their lives. Lemonchello and chocolate only sold here. Lunch with Brigitta and Mike at Scicli The homes all look the same and very old but the streets are spotless.

Day 5 Palermo

Attached below is a map of the Island of Sicily showing in red the route we are taking. Today we drove from Palermo to Monteale to first see the cathedral filled with early medieval paintings. The huge organ filled both sides of the altar. Then on to Corleone to see where the mafia clan were immortalised as the birthplace of several characters in The Godfather. Corleone looking over the city. Another bag for Judy. Typical view in Corleone.

Day 4 Palermo

Today we walked about 10 kms through the streets of the old town of Palermo.  The history here is incredible and the remains still intact giving a great insight into how these people lived even before the advent of Christ, some parts are 2500 years old. The Sicilian people are friendly and happy to share their country.  The G7 meeting is in Sicily this weekend at Taormina but will be finished before we get there.  Wonder if Trump is getting as much pleasure as us from this historical bonanza we have come across ? On our walking tour of the old part of Palermo. Some of the churches were amazing with hundreds of years of work completed inside. Statues and fountains at most piazza's Tourist trade increasing daily Fountains on all four corners of this intersection. The curved streets were fascinating. Another coffee stop in the old town of Palermo. A quick look at the fish market, look at the size of the sword fish on the left ! An amazing church built in the second century with 15 met

Day 3 Palermo

Our flight over to Dubai was a bumpy ride with little sleep, after 30 hours we arrived in Palermo after losing sight of our cases at Rome.  Expecting not to see them for several days at least, there they were  in the baggage claim area at Palermo. We booked them to Rome so how they got to Palermo is still a mystery ! Palermo is the capital city of Sicily which covers a very large area.  Cars, trucks, motor bikes, scooters, and bicycles require a great deal of respect by pedestrians. Judy looking good at Dubai airport after very little sleep. Dubai airport keeps getting bigger and better. Even has caviar and champagne for the weary traveller. This is the court yard at the Borsa Piazza Hotel in the old town of Palermo. The winding streets around the old city. Judy doing some hard bargaining with the owner for her hat. Market stalls negotiate for space with motorbikes and tourists. Plenty of Piazzas, pidgeons and peddlars of horse drawn carriages. Around a corner and yet another church an
